H.G., I understand that your crew has grand designs in mind and may not want to focus on artistic diversity for the sake of diversity. So here is my suggestion: hire a few new faces, and make their sole responsibility to improve the variety of art assets on planets. If your programmers think that something they create is particularly cool, perhaps they could find unique methods and interactions to incorporate those assets into the worlds.
