Procedural generation should be used to give us "dungeons" Posted: 13 Dec 2019 07:02 AM PST Having developed with unreal engine a bit, I know it isn't too hard to create a basic and functional procedurally generated dungeon. Having played NMS, I know Hello Games are the procedural pimps of the industry. So why don't we have the ability to stumble upon quest driven, exploration heavy space stations? I'm thinking we find them by random just like warping into a system and finding a freighter fight. These stations wouldn't need to be very large, maybe even just 10-20 minutes of exploration a piece. Maybe after successfully completing 10,20,30,40,50 stations you get special rewards? Maybe we could even find these only through frigate missions? That would bring back any reason to care for frigates. They could also be found via the mission board. "Hey man, I left my bada** MT on the space station at XYZ system and my mamma gek gave it to me. Wanna go find it? Totes gonna give you some "special nip nip" if you do it. Ya in?" This would give: More reason to warp, build weapon oriented MT's, have defense oriented exosuit slots, visit low economy systems (maybe they have more of them? maybe thats why the economy tanked?), party up, build frigate fleets, opportunity for more interesting sentinel encounters, risk-reward that is currently absent in NMS.
